It is my belief most tricks performed by us magicians are garbage and stink. 

We do ourselves no favor by performing them. 

We act like trained monkeys when doing our shtick.  Monkeys get no respect. They just serve entertainment value that is forgotten as soon as the act is over.

Hear me out:  Manure stinks.  It smells really bad. 

But a gardener uses it in his or her garden, waters it and sows’ seeds.

Through these seeds the manure helps grow a tree.

And the stink of manure passes through the veins of the tree and converts into the fragrance of the flowers.

This same dirt, this same manure which used to smell revolting becomes a flower and gives out a sweet fragrance.

This is a transformation. This is a transmutation.

Legend has it, Houdini, the master magician, once claimed he could break out of any jail cell in the world.  "I'll be out of there in one hour no problem" he said.  Whether he did it by “trick” of not is debatable at best.  He was known to carry his “tools” in the sole of his shoes.  You get what I mean, don’t you?

However, there was another Jewish gentleman named Wolf Messing.  Wolf was admired by Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud.  Once, Wolf was captured by Adolf Hitler’s Gestapo police.  He was in danger of being killed in prison. 

He simply spoke to the 9 of 10 police officers in that prison.  After he was done speaking to them, they ALL locked themselves in the cell and let Wolf out.  No props, gimmicks or tricks were used.  He only used words. 

Wolf escaped to the former USSR.  Joseph Stalin found out about him.  Stalin challenged Wolf to walk into a bank and ask for 100,000 marks with a blank slip of paper.  Wolf was able to do this successfully to the shock and astonishment of Stalin and the world. 

That’s true real-world magic – the ultimate superpower!

Stalin made Wolf train KGB officers in “words.”  I have learned the same skills from one of the few KGB officers taught directly by Wolf.
